With the 2012 Organic and Sustainable Living Festival under a month a way, it is time to let the world know it is on! Do you have or know of a little spot that a poster would fit into? Well here is your chance to help us shout it from the roof tops by printing out the 2012 festival poster and sticking it around the community!

“Lets All Muck In” Day – Saturday 11th Feb at the Penguin Sustainable Living Centre (10am until whenever)

With the Organic & Sustainable Living Festival nearly on us (4th March), we need to do some preparation of the Penguin Sustainable Living Centre site in readiness. There will be a final tidy up just before the festival, but there is a lot to do and we don’t want to be doing the headless chook routine and running around in all directions at the last minute!
Can you help out?
Things we need to do include, having a good clear out of the sea container (which has things stored in there from the last millenium); moving some gear about to make room; a bit of weeding about the place and a general tidy up.
Let’s have a BBQ lunch while we’re at it (that also needs a good clean!) – I’ll bring a few snags, but bring whatever is your choice to throw on the BBQ and we can give it a test run as I’m not sure when it was last used. And, we can fire up the cob oven for some pizza too.
Dress code for the occasion will be your oldest and daggiest plus rubber gloves and sturdy footwear. Remember to slip, slop, slap if it is sunny.
Please RSVP to me at coordinator@nwec.org.au to let me know if you are coming – so that I don’t panic that I’ll be there all on my own!
In case you have not been before or have forgotten – we are located at 207 Ironcliffe Road in Penguin – just up from the sports centre
It’s also not too late to get involved in the festival planning – no matter how long you have to get ready there always seems to be more things to do, so additional helpers will be welcome – either in preparation or on the day.

Publicity Officer

We are seeking an enthusiastic person to fill the role of Publicity Officer. This is a volunteer position, but you can get credits through our new community exchange project. Ideally you will have skills with social media and writing in general, but the most important criteria is a desire to contribute and help make a difference in the North-West. This is a great way to meet new people, pick up new skills and be part of the many exciting projects of the North-West Environment Centre.

NWEC Xmas Break Up

Bring along your christmas spirit and a plate of food for dinner to share for the NWEC Christmas Break Up. A time to reflect on the year that was with other NWEC members, volunteers and supporters in a social setting. This will be a wonderful time to discuss with others any fabulous ideas/projects you may have for next year or just share a drink or two. Friday 16th December from 5pm. All welcome.

Are you a property owner seeking knowledge about weed species on your property and how you can control them?

Are you interested in protecting our native bushland for the future?

An informative presentation and question time with local experienced weed controller, Greg Taylor, will be followed by gourmet woodfired pizzas made in our cob oven at the centre. All welcome. Entry is by gold coin donation – all proceeds will benefit the North West Environment Centre.

A Garden Working Bee shall follow the lunch

for as long as volunteers want to assist

Steiner Education Information Day Community Announcement

Expressions of interest are being sought from parents/carers for the introduction of a Steiner/Waldorf stream of primary education for the NW Coast to be based at Penguin. This book has clear images of the birds and can be used throughout Tasmania by anybody who has even a very slight interest in our feathered friends. Available from the NWEC for $10 a copy.
